Metasphere, a collaboration between myself and Claire Undy, is an attempt to explore the methods both disciplines use to create a piece of work. Using Undy's series of seven paintings Paintings for Platform 10 as a starting point I set about composing a series of pieces centered around different elements of what I perceived to be Undy's painting style.
Each of my compositions are in an experimental, 'sound art' style and make extensive use of sound design techniques. The compositions were realised using 3D ambisonic techniques. All mixing was done a 24 speaker ambisonic system meaning the pieces, even when heard in stereo have a richness, depth and openness uncommon to normal stereo recordings.
